Today I created a Gantt chart. This has greatly helped my planning and organisation, allowing me to network my tasks and ensure im on track and making the correct amount of progress. One struggle I’ve had is, due to my project being to create a film, I can’t plan too far ahead at once as the majority of my time will be needed for filming and editing. With filming it depends on a variety of limiting factors as to when I do it, and I can’t begin the majority of my editing until filing is complete.  Due to this I have only planned from today until the end of November.

Today we discussed in groups, talking about our ideas for the topic and/or project on a whole for our EPQ. I had already formed quite a strong idea, which I felt related to both my interests and chosen subjects, and which would contribute to my chosen career path. I have chosen to make a short film. This would involve planning costume, props, locations, and music; casting actors, and directing them; then creating an ident, credits, and editing the film. I have created a rough draft of what I want my film to be about, however, I want my next steps to be storyboarding my idea, casting, and deciding on locations, any props and music.

We were also informed of our time restrictions. The product itself must be complete before exams, then we will do our presentations after exams, and the evaluation should be complete roughly two weeks after our presentations.

We were then given the following list, in order to aid the planning and carrying out of our idea/ project:

Due to their being a lot of aspects to the project (both before, during and after) and the time restrictions put on the project, we were informed about Gantt charts. These will allow me to be more efficient in my work, as I will be able to create a branching network programme (which will be a lot more productive than a linear structure), whilst maintaining organisation. I plan on creating a Gantt chart very soon.
